Liverpool may be close to missing out on their major managerial target this summer.

The Reds were left reeling with the news that manager Jurgen Klopp is departing when this season ends.

Klopp is citing burnout as the reason why he no longer wants to lead the Anfield club.

Per The Mail, Xabi Alonso would prefer to join Bayern Munich over Liverpool this summer.

The Bayer Leverkusen man is now wanted by both clubs, as Thomas Tuchel is also departing Bayern in the off-season.

But The Mail adds that Liverpool would still hope to convince Alonso to join them.
