Wright: Man Utd youngster Rashford will cope with England call, unlike Arsenal's Walcott

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has stated that Marcus Rashford will not flop for England like Theo Walcott did.

Rashford was included in the 26-man provisional England squad for the upcoming European Championships by manager Roy Hodgson and many are wondering if the 18-year-old will be able to cope with the pressure of playing at such a big tournament for the Three Lions.

Rashford's inclusion in the England team has been likened to a teenage Walcott being selected for the FIFA World Cup back in 2006. The Arsenal forward struggled to deal with the pressure at such a young age but club great Wright believes that Rashford will be able to do so, as he has already performed on the big stage.

Wright told The Sun: "I think Marcus Rashford will go to the Euros and I have no qualms about it — this is not like when Sven-Goran Eriksson made the ridiculous decision to take 17-year-old Theo Walcott to the 2006 World Cup.

"Theo had not played a minute of Premier League football and that call-up has been a noose around his neck because of the pressure it put on him. Worst-case scenario for Rashford would be to go the same way but I'm confident he won't.

"Why? Because he has played in the Prem and has scored goals for Manchester United in big games. He has come in and coped really well playing in front of 70,000 and all the media attention, despite being only 18. He's made a magnificent impact at a testing time."
