Wout Weghorst 'really hungry' to prove himself at Man Utd

Wout Weghorst feels ready to prove himself at Premier League level with Manchester United.

The striker trained with his new teammates for the first time on Sunday and could make his debut for Erik ten Hag's side in Wednesday's clash with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Weghorst was on loan at Besiktas from Burnley, but the Turkish club accepted £2.5million in compensation to rip up that deal so the 30-year-old Holland striker could spend the second half of the season at Old Trafford instead.

"For me, it was not done," said Weghorst who hit nine goals in 18 games for Besiktas.

"It was not finished. It didn't work out the first time as I hoped and I'm really hungry to show myself, to help the team.

"Of course, I want to score goals here. I'm a striker and I think every striker knows it – you are living for scoring goals.

"That's the thing we work all week for, to get it done at the weekend. That's definitely something I want to achieve here. For me as a striker, at the end, it's also all about goals."

Weghorst was in the stands with his family at Old Trafford on Saturday as United came from behind to win the Manchester derby 2-1. It was United's ninth win in a row and put them just one point behind Manchester City in the table.

"Of course, we are on a really good track now," added Weghorst. "The last couple of weeks, months actually, it's going really positive here and I just want to contribute and give my best for the club. I'll try to be a part of the successful way we are going."
