WORLD CUP: Punchless Switzerland crash out of World Cup

Switzerland needed a two goal win against Honduras to progress into the last 16 but lacked a cutting edge and had to settle for a disappointing scoreless draw. SWI: 0 HON: 0

Venue: Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein Crowd: 28,042 Officials Referee: Hector Baldassi (Argentina) Assistants: Ricardo Casas & Hernan Maidana (both Argentina) Fourth official: Viktor Kassai (Hungary) Yellow cards:SWI - Fernandes HON - Chavez, Thomas, Palacios, Suazo

Red cards: none MATCH REPORT Switzerland failed to build on their opening victory over Spain and, needing a two-goal win to guarantee a place in the last 16, failed to score against a Honduran side who failed to find the back of the net in South Africa. The Swiss quickly settled after Los Catrachos started brightly, but soon displayed the attributes of a team who had gone seven games since last scoring more than two goals.

Despite needing to score they lacked that adventure needed to really trouble a stubborn Honduras defence.

As the second half unfolded and the Swiss became even more desperate to score the Hondurans displayed their skill on the counter attack and almost made the Swiss pay for their profligacy in front of goal.

The game ended with Honduras in the ascendancy and the Switzerland supporters wondering where a promising start to their World Cup campaign had gone wrong. Starting Line-Ups
