Wondolowski excited as San Jose Earthquakes look forward to Avaya 'hard' opening

San Jose Earthquakes opened their brand new soccer-specific stadium on the weekend to much fanfare and ado.

The 'Quakes took on Californian rivals and MLS Cup winners LA Galaxy in a pre-season friendly to mark the 'soft' opening of the 18,000-capacity located close to the San Jose International Airport.

Dom Kinnear's San Jose defeated the Galaxy 3-2 in front of a raucous crowd at their brand new venue and the atmosphere was something that resonated well with club captain Chris Wondolowski.

"It's a great feeling, to step out to your home stadium and to have a nice lively crowd out there and some passionate fans," Wondolowski said.

However, 'Wondo' admitted it was more important to turn up and produce a similar result when they finally take to the Avaya pitch for their first home game of the 2015 MLS season against Chicago Fire on March 22.

"It's amazing. But to be honest, I'm really looking forward to the 22nd. That's when it really counts," added the star striker.
