Wolves keen as Mascarell confirms Schalke split plans

Schalke midfielder Omar Mascarell admits he's ready to leave at the end of the season.

The former Real Madrid prospect was linked with Wolves last week as Schalke battle to get out of the Bundesliga dropzone. In a struggling team, Mascarell has shone and caught the eye of Wolves manager Nuno.

Schalke are favourites to drop into Germany's second tier, having only taken 10 points all season. Wolves' scouts have been tracking Mascarell and there's a belief at Molineux that he could be available for a fraction of his true value.

Mascarell joined Schalke in 2018 and has made 66 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit. A move to Wolves would mean a return to England for the 28 year-old, where he had a spell in the Championship with Derby County.

"After five years, my greatest wish is to look for a new adventure somewhere else," said the Spaniard to AS via Fussball Transfers.

Mascarell had offers to leave in January, but reasoned: “As captain, I couldn't leave the ship, and that's what I said.

"I do not regret this decision. I don't like to run away when something goes wrong."

So far this season, Mascarell has managed 22 appearances for S04, scoring once.
