Wolves star Pedro Neto out of Portugal World Cup campaign

Wolves and Portugal star Pedro Neto has been ruled out of the World Cup.

The winger is set to undergo surgery due to an ankle injury, which is the latest setback in his career.

Neto had only returned from a ten-month absence due to a broken kneecap.

The 22-year-old had shown excellent form at the start of this season, but must now deal with an extended period on the sidelines.

“Pedro sustained an ankle injury against West Ham on Saturday where he strained the lateral ligaments," said Wolves in a statement.

“Following further evaluation and a specialist opinion this week, it is planned for him to undergo surgery. This means that, unfortunately, he will not be fit for the upcoming World Cup."
