James McCarthy's agent has confirmed Premiership duo Wigan and Wolves are battling it out for the Hamilton youngster. A couple of top-eight Premier League clubs are also thought to be weighing up offers for the 18 year old Republic of Ireland international.

McCarthy's agent, Willie McKay confirmed the player is to hold talks with Wolves and Wigan and that other clubs are keeping tabs on his situation.

"James is currently undergoing a medical at Wolves and he has been very impressed by what Wolves have to offer," McKay told skysports.com.

"Wigan have also had a bid accepted by Hamilton and we are due to hold talks with them at some point.

"I know there are other clubs chasing James and we will wait and see if they make offers acceptable to Hamilton."
