Wolfsburg are chasing Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel.

The Daily Star Sunday says the German outfit are planning to spend some of the £27m brought in by the sale of Edin Dzeko to Manchester City on bolstering their backline.

And they want Slovakia hardman Skrtel, 26, to toughen up their defence.

Skrtel made a big impression immediately after his arrival at Anfield from Zenit St Petersburg for £6.5m in January 2008.

But his form has waned and Wolfsburg intend to test Liverpool's desire to keep hold of him.
