Former Ajax and Barcelona midfielder Richard Witschge says Zinedine Zidane was a big fan of Ajax's style of play.

Witschge played with Real Madrid coach Zidane for three years at Bordeaux.

He recalled to Bleacher Report: "I ended up playing with him at Bordeaux for three years.

"I didn't think he would continue as a coach after his active career."

Witschge knows from his own experience that Zidane advocates 'attacking, attractive and technically cared football'.

"Simply good football, he loved it.

"Zinedine liked the football philosophy of Ajax and Barcelona, when Johan Cruijff was a trainer there. We always talked about how Ajax's youth teams played. He was certainly very interested in that."
