Reading manager Brian McDermott has dismissed claims that Wally Downes is set to return to the club.
The former Wimbledon star was recently relieved of his duties as first-team coach at West Ham United with reports suggesting he could be on his way back to the Madejski Stadium where he worked under Steve Coppell but McDermott has poured cold water over that speculation.
"No (he is not coming back). I've spoken to Wally," McDermott told reporters.
"It came out of the blue for him and I have no idea what happened. He's a good bloke and I'm gutted for him."
