Wilshere to fight quality competition for Arsenal spot

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has reiterated his desire to fight for his spot in the Gunners team amid rumours linking him with a move to Manchester City.

Wilshere has endured another injury-interrupted campaign but has made it clear that he is determined to force his way into a midfield which already consists of the likes of Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil.

He said: "When I first started at Arsenal there were players like Cesc Fabregas, Sami Nasri and Alex Song, and people were saying I wouldn't play, that I might have to go out on loan to get some game time. But I'm there to accept the competition and fight for my place.

"Of course I was disappointed not to start on Saturday. I'm a boy who wants to play football. But I sort of saw it coming.

"The team has been playing well and if you look through the team there wasn't anyone who the boss could drop. But at the end of the day when the first whistle went I wanted the team to win."

The 23-year old could only make a substitute appearance in the FA Cup final for the second year in a row on Saturday as Arsenal demolished Aston Villa 4-0.
