Newcastle United's Steven Taylor has praised the early influence made by new signing Gini Wijnaldum.

The Dutch midfielder joined the Magpies from Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven for £14.5million last month and has already made a creative difference according to defender Taylor

"We need that. Look at Gini, when he gets the ball he's sharp and strong," Taylor said in the wake of the weekend's friendly with Borussia Monchengladbach.

"He and Moussa Sissoko were going straight through them.

"He's creating some great little passes."

Wijnaldum, Taylor and the rest of the Newcastle squad are preparing for their 2015/16 Premier League season against Southampton at St James' Park on Sunday.
