Wigan's McArthur eager to clinch FA Cup medal for Accies mentor Reid

Wigan Athletic midfielder James McArthur is determined to show his former Hamilton boss Billy Reid a FA Cup winners medal.

The 25-year old former Accies man is preparing for Saturday's Wembley decider against Manchester City and hopes to be successful in his quest for glory.

"McArthur says he owes a lot to his old mentor - no longer with the Accies - who helped get he and fellow Latics star James McCarthy their moves to the Premier League.

"I think James and I will always remember where we have come from," said McArthur.

"We are always grateful for the people who have done so well for us in our careers.

"Whenever anyone asks James or I about who helped us most we always mention Billy Reid. That is simply because we understand the major influence he has had on our careers. Ronnie MacDonald, the former Hamilton chairman is another one. He was the one who signed us as professional players.

"The people at Hamilton were brilliant for us.

"It is maybe a wee bit sad to see Billy out of the game just now - but it seems to be right for him and Accies at the moment.

"Billy will get back into a job in time, I have no doubt about that. He is a brilliant manager and a great man."
