Wigan boss Martinez: Lambert right manager for Villa

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez insists Paul Lambert knows what he's doing at Aston Villa.

He has spent £21million bringing in promising youngsters but with injuries to the likes of Darren Bent, Gabby Agbonlahor and skipper Ron Vlaar, he is missing the vital experience of senior players.

Martinez said: "Paul knows exactly what he's doing and has got a great group of players.

"We've been in a similar situation. When you change things round and bring in different ideas and young players, you need to be a little bit patient.

"Villa have let in 15 goals but before that they went to Anfield and looked a very strong unit.

"It's important for the board to accept results like this. Chopping and changing doesn't bring you success. The most important thing is to have some continuity."
