Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce will stick with Titus Bramble despite his own goal against Sunderland on Saturday.
"Titus has had his fair share of mistakes and, when he makes one, it tends to get punished," he told the Wigan Evening Post.
"Something like that you can forgive because he went to try and clear the ball and it just came off the top of his head.
"We've all done it - I scored many own goals in my time. The main thing was Titus didn't let it affect him.
"After that, I thought he was excellent, and that is why I've kept him.
"He played really well in the previous three games against Chelsea, Notts County and Hull and he'll be okay after this.
"It's a case of how you manage players in such circumstances.
"Sometimes Titus needs the stick, sometimes he needs an arm around the shoulders, and sometimes you need a little bit of time away from him."
