Wigan boss Bruce doesn't envy Hughes' Man City spending power

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce insists he doesn't envy the new spending power of Mark Hughes at Manchester City.

"I'm definitely not jealous of Mark's position. Look at what I've got here," said Bruce. "I've got a chairman who lets me get on with things and I have no interference.

"I have to ask him about some things but he's old school, the manager's the manager and that's refreshing."

Bruce's Wigan will try to deliver a second blow to Hughes' revolution at the JJB Stadium tomorrow - four days after City's shock Carling Cup exit at Brighton.

Hughes splashed out around £70m this summer, including a British record £32.5million on Brazilian Robinho.

Bruce spent just £7m on Olivier Kapo and Lee Cattermole and he backs his old Manchester United team-mate Hughes to use the Arab millions wisely.

But he claims City's new owners are in for a shock if they expect silverware overnight.

He added: "It's not just about money, it's about blending a team and blending a squad.

"And that has its own difficulties, no matter how much money you've got.

"It can happen and without money you haven't got a chance. But it doesn't necessarily bring you success."
