Wigan and Birmingham are being linked with a move for Tottenham's out-of-favour midfielder Danny Murphy.
Murphy has failed to hold down a regular first-team place under Martin Jol since his £2million switch to White Hart Lane from Charlton in January 2006.
The Spurs chief has reportedly told the 30-year-old that he is surplus to requirements and the Sunday Mirror claims that Latics boss Chris Hutchings and Blues manager Steve Bruce are monitoring the situation.
Wigan reportedly failed with a £1m bid for Murphy in January, and despite Birmingham's interest it is well known that the playmaker would prefer a return to the North West.
