Who's the youth? Five U20s Arsenal fans must watch

While football has temporarily been taken away from us, take some time to familiarise yourself with your club's brightest stars, who might start making a name for themselves when games resume...

Folarin Balogun

Folarin Balogun is one of the most highly rated youngsters at the Emirates. He gave the club's supporters a glimpse of his abilities when he scored a hat-trick against Barnet FC in a U23 pre-season friendly last summer.

The young Englishman is incredibly fast and often uses his speed to run in behind his opponent's defence - much like Arsenal frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who Balogun admittedly idolises.

Balogun is yet to feature for Arsenal's first-team but he's trained with the club's first-team on a few occasions, and has also been named as a substitute in a couple of games.

Judging by his performances for Arsenal's youth team, the 18-year-old is almost certain to make his Premier League debut in the near future.

Zak Swanson

Zak Swanson is a name that has been on the lips of Arsenal's academy coaches for a while now.

Naturally a right-back, Swanson can also feature as a centre-back thanks to his incredible defensive work rate.

The young Englishman has built a reputation on the youth football scene for his ability to close down space and win the ball back cleanly.

The 19-year-old signed his first professional contract with the Gunners in April last year after putting up impressive displays in the club's youth ranks.

Now tied to the club on a long-term basis, Swanson is expected to be slowly introduced into Arsenal's first-team set-up, however, that will depend on whether he can keep up his impressive performances from last season's Premier League 2 campaign.

Tyreece John-Jules

Back in March 2019, Arsenal's first-team squad took a trip to Dubai under Unai Emery to train and play friendlies with some of the best clubs in the UAE.

Despite being a first-team event, some promising youngsters within the club's ranks were invited to join the trip, and 19-year-old Tyreece John-Jules was one such player.

John-Jules made the most of the opportunity handed to him by finding the back of the net in Arsenal's 3-2 victory against Al Nasr.

Standing at 6'0, John-Jules is a hard man to contain up front. He boasts a dynamic style of play as he's able to take players on and get on the end of crosses.

John-Jules has garnered a reputation for himself as a prolific goalscorer within Arsenal's youth ranks - while he's yet to make an official first-team debut, based on his U18 performances, Mikel Arteta almost certainly has him under his radar.

Zech Medley

Zech Medley is one of the most exciting young defenders not just for Arsenal, but in the English football scene.

Standing at 6'5, Medley boasts an incredible presence in defence. He's able to shrug players off the ball with ease and win the ball in the air without breaking a sweat.

Medley doesn't rely solely on his frame to excel as a centre-back, though, as the 19-year-old possesses elite level defensive awareness which allows him to position himself for blocks and interceptions.

The young Englishman hasn't made an appearance for Arsenal's senior team, but with Arteta at the helm, he might just get a chance to make his Premier League debut for the Gunners.

Miguel Azeez

17-year-old midfielder Miguel Azeez has been making waves behind the scenes at Arsenal over the past couple of years, to the point where he's currently tipped to break into the club's first-team in the near future.

Despite being 17, Azeez plays well above his years. The young Englishman oozes incredible amounts of confidence as seen in a friendly against Barnet FC's senior team where he attempted an audacious chip.

Azeez possesses Fabregas-esque technique as he's able to spot a pass from far out. Alongside his technique, Azeez also boasts raw pace, making him more of a threat in the heart of midfield.

Over the next couple of years, Miguel Azeez is expected to slowly transition into Arsenal's first-team - if he continues to focus on his development as a player, then he should grow into an important player for the Gunners.
