West Ham risk losing Downes to Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town are eyeing West Ham United defensive coach Wally Downes.

The Daily Star says Paul Jewell is close to sealing a deal to take over at Portman Road after Roy Keane was sacked on Thursday night.

And Jewell's first move as Tractor Boys manager will be to lure Downes as his assistant boss.

Downes is highly-rated and Jewell feels his Championship experience will be key to reviving Ipswich's fortunes.
