West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez saw the irony in making his Premier League debut against Chelsea.
The anchorman, who previously played for Ajax in the Eredivisie, was a Chelsea target at one stage.
Alvarez was not able to seal a move to Stamford Bridge last winter, but is now in London with another club.
The £35.4 million signing helped the Hammers earn an impressive 3-1 win over Chelsea at home on Sunday.
Post-game, he said: “I came here to play in the best league in the world.
“It was funny [to make my debut versus Chelsea]. I always think everything happens for a reason. Sometimes we want things but then it is not in our hands.
“But look, now I am in a very good team and I am super happy. I am in a great dressing room with great players and people."
