West Ham goalkeeper Areola mixed emotions after Man Utd defeat

West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola admitted mixed emotions after defeat at Manchester United.

The France goalkeeper made his top-flight debut for West Ham and produced a solid all-round display at Manchester United on Saturday, only for a last-gasp Marcus Rashford goal to ruin his day.

He told the club's website: “I'm trying to give my best. It was my first game in the Premier League for West Ham, so I was expecting another [positive] result, but it's football, as we said. We love it and we have to come back and put our heads back in the game, so let's go!

“We proved we are a good team. We are solid and we are working for the same thing and the same objective – it's what we have done here in the Carabao Cup a couple of months before, when it was the same atmosphere. [In the Premier League] we are competing for the first four, so we will try to get back into that fourth place and try to reach lots of points.

"We tried to keep the ball away from our goal. We tried our best, but in football we have to compete until the end of the game and I think it was the last minute and we were unlucky also with the VAR, so for me I thought we deserved more from this game."
