West Ham United hope to have Winston Reid back for the New Year.
Reid, who was voted the club's player of the year last season, has been out since November 5 after suffering a high ankle sprain in training.
Head of sports science Andy Rolls said: "Winston had an operation on his ankle injury to stabilise the joint. This procedure went well. He will now convalesce for a few days before starting his rehabilitation."
