West Ham to bring Ferdinand brothers together for first time

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is due to play in the same team as his Sunderland playing brother Anton for the first time.

The Ferdinand brothers both came through the academy ranks at West Ham United, but England captain Rio secured a big money move to Manchester United before Anton made his first-team debut for West Ham in August 2003.

Anton left the Hammers for Sunderland last season, but both players have agreed to play for West Ham in academy director Tony Carr's testimonial on May 5.

The pair will join Joe Cole, John Terry, Frank Lampard and Michael Carrick in a star-studded line-up.

Anton said: "It would be the first time me and Rio have played together. That's something I'm sure the West Ham fans would love to see and something my family would love too.

"Tony deserves it with the amount of stuff he's done for this club. The number of players who have come through says it all.

"If it wasn't for him, some of the best players who have come through into the England team wouldn't be doing what they're doing."
