West Ham boss Grant happy with mix of personalities on his bench

West Ham United boss Avram Grant is happy to have a mix of personalities on the bench.

Grant is looking to reshape his backroom staff following the departure of assistant manager Zeljko Petrovic, as former Brentford boss Wally Downes was appointed to work with the defence.

The Israeli intends to bring in more specific coaches, and former West Ham striker Paolo di Canio has been touted as a potential candidate.

Downes certainly made his presence felt on the touchline yesterday and Grant feels all approaches have their own merits.

"If [Arsene] Wenger is quiet and Arsenal win, everybody says it's a good thing. I just think the message needs to be clear. People have different ways of bringing the message," the West Ham manager said.

"Wally asked me before the game if he could shout and say whatever he wants. He did well, is very happy, energetic.

"Petrovic is a good guy, very positive and did a good job, but he was assistant manager.

"Wally has a specific job that he is committed to. He is doing it well, is very passionate - but he does it in a different way."
