West Ham banking on Keane influence

West Ham United boss Avam Grant believes loan signing Robbie Keane is the man to keep the East London in the top flight this season.

The Israeli tactician feels that the Tottenham striker, on loan at Upton Park for the rest of the season, can perform the same feat that Carlos Tevez did for the Hammers back in 2007 when he netted seven times in 10 matches to keep the club aloft.

"I hope so. He has the qualities to do it," Grant said.

"I have known Tevez for many years. He is a great player and has scored goals wherever he has been. The same has happened for Robbie Keane - he has scored goals everywhere and he can do the same for us. I think the style of the team is good for him.

"Tevez came at the start of the season (for West Ham) and didn't play. You always have to give time, but we don't have time. We need to do it as quickly as possible.

"This is one of the reasons we wanted Robbie. He knows English football and knows our team. I don't think it will take Robbie long to settle in. Every game he will get better but I think he will get used to it very quickly."

West Ham United are away at Bloomfield Road to take on Blackpool tonight in what will be Keane's debut for the club.
