West Ham attacker Bowen: Newcastle thrashing just embarrassing

West Ham attacker Jarrod Bowen admits they were "embarrassed" by Newcastle for Wednesday night's 5-1 thrashing.

The Irons collapsed at London stadium as Callum Wilson and Joelinton struck twice each, with Alexander Isak also scoring.

Bowen said, "We started well, but then conceded two easy goals, we shot ourselves in the foot against a team fighting for top four. The position we are in, we can't give away these easy goals.

"It's an embarrassing performance at the end of the day, there's nothing positive to take out of it. It was a massive game coming off Sunday, so it is disappointing. We've got to feel that it hurts tonight, we have another game on Saturday so we have to turn hurt into joy. It's too late in season to brush things under the carpet, we are in this position and have to face it head on."

On conceding a third goal just before half time, he stated: "It wasn't the best time to concede but there was still time, we had to keep fighting. These fans demand so much more, and we demand not giving up on the pitch. It was criminal to concede two more on top of that. It is time to be negative now as it was not a good performance, but then we look to Saturday."

On being booed off at full time, Bowen admitted: "Fans were right to voice their concern. We take that on chin from the fans, we are a family at this club, we don't want to put out results like that. On Saturday they will travel in numbers, it's up to us to show a performance."
