West Bromwich Albion and Southampton played out a scoreless draw on the weekend.
It was a forgettable encounter at The Hawthorns which delivered little in the way of scoring chances from either side.
There were impressive defensive displays from debutants Virgil van Dijk (Southampton) and Jonny Evans (Albion) while Saido Berahino returned to action following his strike threat on deadline day.
In the end, however, it finished 0-0 as the Baggies grabbed their fifth point of the season to sit 14th while the Saints occupy 11th having recorded six points.

Offensively just not good enough. Had a few chances but didn't give away anything. 3rd clean sheet in a row. That's the positive of today!

QUOTES CORNER
West Brom's Pulis on reception given to Berahino:
"I'm pleased he had such a great reception, that's wonderful and it shows the quality and the depth of our supporters to have given him such a reception. I was not surprised by the reaction, not from this crowd. The crowd here have been wonderful, absolutely wonderful."
Southamptonboss Koeman on the performance of van Dijk:
"Virgil was in my opinion impressive. He looks very comfortable with his new team-mates and good in defending and we know also one of his qualities is in his passing from the back. He played perfectly today."
