West Bromwich Albion have dropped their interest in Reading football chief Nicky Hammond.
The Sunday Mirror says the Baggies have been stunned to find out it would cost them £1m to make Reading's Hammond the club's new sporting and technical director.
Albion are seeking a replacement for Dan Ashworth, who leaves the post in the summer for the FA.
