West Brom snap up Hibs defender Martis

West Brom have snapped up Hibs defender Shelton Martis for £50,000.

The 6ft 1in centre-half yesterday put pen to paper on a two-year deal, plus a further year's option in the club's favour, after having passed a medical.

It is the second time Tony Mowbray, the West Bromwich manager, has signed the young centre-back after taking him from Darlington to Edinburgh in August 2006.

He told the club's official website: "Shelton is a player I worked with at the start of last season in Scotland. He's got huge potential which is why I want to give him the platform to perform. He's not the finished article yet, but he could become a very good player for our football club."
