West Brom skipper Brunt: Hodgson appointment what we needed

West Bromwich Albion captain Chris Brunt feels that the club was right to sack Roberto Di Matteo and replace him with Roy Hodgson in February.

Brunt said that the Italian simply was not achieving results and highlighted the fact that Hodgson had immediately brought in a degree of success to The Hawthorns.

He used the weekend's 2-2 draw at Tottenham as a perfect scenario where perhaps Hodgson had more experience and know-how than what Di Matteo may have brought to the table.

"Football is a results business and if you look at the results we've had since the manager changed you can't really argue with it," he told the Express and Star.

"That's not me having a dig at Robbie. At the start of the season he got his fair share of results.

"But maybe it's that extra bit of experience that Roy Hodgson's got that has made a massive difference for us. If we had gone there and tried to outplay Spurs, with the players and the quality they've got, they would probably have beaten us.

"But we now have that bit of organisation so we know what we're doing when we are not in possession, and we know there will be spells when we go to places when we haven't got the ball."
