West Brom's Brunt cops one-match suspension

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Chris Brunt has been handed a one-match for abusing an official .

The FA have sanctioned the Northern Ireland international for using abusive and insulting words towards a match official in the tunnel after his side's 2-0 loss to Aston Villa in the FA Cup quarter-final last weekend.

Brunt pleaded guilty to the misconduct charge and has accepted the one-match ban and a £8000 fine for his actions.

"We had a fair hearing and feel the punishment is an acknowledgement by the Commission that this was an extraordinary case," said Albion's director of football administration Richard Garlick.

"It was a difficult end to the game for everyone and emotions were running high. I think Chris' disciplinary record, which has seen him issued with one red card in more than 400 appearances at the highest levels, was also rightly noted."
