West Brom remain hopeful of Phillips stay

West Bromwich Albion remain hopeful of re-signing Kevin Phillips, despite fresh stories linking the striker with a move to Derby.

Phillips has reportedly said privately he would be tempted by a switch to Pride Park if the relegated Rams offered him a two-year deal.

But it is understood Phillips' representatives still plan to speak to the Baggies again first before opening negotiations with any other clubs.

And Derby sources played down the strength of their interest.

Phillips, aged 34, remains adamant he wants a straight two-year contract.
