West Brom need British manager - Ally Robertson

West Bromwich Albion legend Ally Robertson has urged his old club to appoint a British manager.

The former centre-half, who spent 17 years at The Hawthorns and played more than 500 games, believes Malky Mackay would be a good option.

"We have got to do it and do it right this time," the Scot told the Birmingham Mail.

"I think if they had left Keith Downing in the job to see the season out, it would have given them time to look up, see where they are and pick who they want without there being any pressure. Getting a non-English speaker was bizarre.

"I would look at someone like Malky Mackay, he would be one of the top people for me.

"I don't know anything about him as a person but he was doing really well with Cardiff. When he left they quickly started dropping down."
