West Brom defender Evans out as Northern Ireland prepare for vital clash with Greece

Jonny Evans has been ruled out of Northern Ireland's Euro2016 qualifier with Greece.

The West Bromwich Albion defender will miss Thursday's vital meeting in Belfast after suffering a hamstring injury on the weekend.

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill confirmed the news, saying: "Jonny will join the squad tomorrow with a view to Sunday.

"West Brom have been excellent in terms of co-operation on that.

"We always felt tomorrow night would be too soon but he hasn't ruled out Sunday, neither have we and neither have the club."

Northern Ireland sit on top of the Group F and a win over the Greeks would see them progress to the finals of next summer's tournament in France.

If they fail to win that fixture, Sunday's meeting with Finland in Helsinki provides them with another chance.
