West Bromwich Albion captain Kyle Bartley is disappointed that Sam Allardyce has quit the club.
Allardyce announced his departure at the end of the season following West Brom's 3-1 loss to West Ham on Wednesday.
The 66-year-old took over at the Baggies midway through the season, but could not save them from relegation to the Championship.
Asked about the news by reporters, Bartley said: "Sam Allardyce told us as we got in the dressing room.
"It's a bit of a shock.
"I think most of us expected he would be here next season. I thought he would have been fantastic for us next year.
"I'd have thought we would have a really good chance of going back up. But I fully respect his decision."
