West Brom coach Appleton pleased with Scharner attitude

West Bromwich Albion coach Michael Appleton has praised Paul Scharner for his professional attitude.

Appleton has been pleased by Scharner's response to losing his place in Albion's starting XI for the first time under Roy Hodgson.

"I've seen a positive reaction, definitely," Appleton told the WBA website.

"Paul is what he is, he's a character and he's got a lot to say for himself at times, but not in a bad way as such. He thinks about his football and cares about his football, and you only have to look at him physically to know that he looks after himself.

"He's in the gym every day after training and I expect him to carry on with the reaction he has given straight away. He works his socks off every day and he'll do the role that's asked.

"I thought when he went on on Saturday he played really well and got straight into it.

"At the moment he finds himself out of the side but in one or two games he might be straight back into the team and trying to make sure he stays in there for another 15 to 20 games."
