West Brom boss Hodgson will not rush Hargreaves signing

West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson says they'll take their time over a deal for released Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

Hodgson stressed any potential deal is not affected by the transfer window closing on Wednesday.

"There's no real update at the moment," he explained to the WBA website.

"Owen's still discussing things with Dan Ashworth. You must remember with Owen that the transfer window does not apply.

"He's out of contract and is a free agent. He can join a club whenever he wants. Any deal has obviously got to be right for both parties.

"If it turns out that way, that there's a place for him here, a role he can fulfil and he wants to come, then maybe something can be done.

"But, at the moment, it's a matter still of discussion between himself and Dan and also for the club because, at the moment, we have a lot of players.

"We can only have 25 so it's dependent perhaps on what happens in the remainder of the transfer window.

"It could even work out that with the number of players we've got, we have too many players to add somebody else. Until next week, there's no rush on our side.

"It will take the time it takes.

"Owen's been out of football for a year so weeks and days don't make that much of a difference."
