West Brom academy boss Harrison delighted with Wood breakthrough

West Brom academy boss Mark Harrison is delighted Kiwi teenager Chris Wood has made his Premiership debut.

"Chris making his senior debut is massively important for the Academy," Harrison told the WBA website.

"It is arguably the most important thing for any Academy. That is what we are here for - to produce players for our first team. It has given everybody a boost, especially in the current climate when it is becoming more and more difficult to produce players for the Premier League.

"The fact one of our players has progressed to play in the top flight when we have only been an Academy for three-and-a-half years has given the whole of the youth set-up a boost. A lot of the other academies have been doing it for ten years.

"People speak about Middlesbrough producing players, which they certainly have, but they have got six or seven years on us."
