Wenger has no striker regrets for misfiring Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he has no regrets about not bringing in a new striker in the winter transfer window.

The Gunners appeared to be in need of a quality goalscorer if they were to mount a serious title challenge this season but Wenger did not act in January, preferring to work with what he already had up front.

The north Londoners have scored just 66 goals this season, compared to the 96 of top two sides Manchester City and Liverpool, but the Frenchman feels the absenteeism of some key attackers through injury was the major reason for their shortcomings and not the inability to attract a new striker to the Emirates.

"I would just say, to be brutal in our first analysis, we missed a few goals, compared to the teams who scored the most goals, and we missed some big away games by conceding too many," Wenger said after his side beat West Bromwich Albion 1-0 on Sunday.

"The regret is not there (for not signing another striker), because we missed offensive players (through injury) at an important part of the season.

"The solution is not always outside: the solution is as well inside your club where the disadvantage of having many injuries is you always have to play the same players.

"Then, of course, they score less goals because they are a bit jaded."
