Wellington Phoenix are still a chance of selling Shane Smeltz to a Turkish club. Reports have indicated that the Phoenix have signed paperwork with Turkish Super League club Genclerbirligi OFTAS (now known as Hacettepe Spor Kulübü).
Despite signing with new A-League franchise Gold Coast United, Smeltz remains a Phoenix player until March 31 and the club still has the right to sell the player.
Crowned as the A-League's Player of the Year on Monday, Smeltz has expressed his desire to join Gold Coast next season but it is understood that his new club will do everything they can to stop the move to Turkey going ahead.
