Watford is close to securing a deal for Schalke fullback Dennis Aogo, according to German newspaper Bild.

Hornets manager Marco Silva is keen on making the 30-year old his first signing at the club after taking over from Walter Mazzarri.

The German, who has 12 caps for his country, is out of contract this summer and is believed to be interested in moving to the Premier League.

Aogo joined the Gelsenkirchen club in 2014 from Hamburg and went on to make 78 appearances for Die Knappen.

West Brom has also been linked with a move for Aogo, but Watford is said to be more desperate to secure a deal.
