James scores screamer as Chelsea claim win over Brighton

Chelsea have got their season off to the best possible start with a 3-1 win over Brighton at the AMEX on Monday.

The Blues went ahead after 23 minutes thanks to a penalty from Jorginho, which was won by new signing Timo Werner.

Frank Lampard's side were not dominant in the first-half but still had the game in control. That was until Kepa's weak save allowed Leandro Trossard to equalise after 54 minutes.

Fortunately for the visitors, Reece James was on hand just two minutes later to restore their advantage.

You won't see a better first Premier League goal for a long time after right-back James let fly from long-range, leaving Albion shot-stopper Mat Ryan without a chance as the ball flew into the cobwebs.

At 2-1, Lewis Dunk squandered a great opportunity to put the Seagulls level, and Chelsea made them pay.

Kurt Zouma gave his side a two-goal cushion after 66 minutes when his volley from James' corner deflected in off Brighton defender Adam Webster.

Kai Havertz was also handed a competitive debut alongside his fellow German in Werner, giving Chelsea fans a glimpse of what is to come this season and beyond.

Brighton's next Premier League fixture is on Saturday against Newcastle at St. James' Park, while Frank Lampard's side will host champions Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
