Sebastian Giovinco was at his absolute best as Toronto FC finally secured a spot in the MLS playoffs.
The former Juventus forward scored a stunning goal as TFC defeated New York Red Bulls 2-1 at BMO Field on Wednesday to book at least a top-six finish in the Eastern Conference.
With the ten-man Reds up 1-0 following a 51st-minute opener from Herculez Gomez - and a red card to Jozy Altidore - Giovinco took it upon himself to brush off a trio of would-be tacklers before unleashing a left-footed effort beyond Red Bulls keeper Luis Robles.
New York managed to pull one back through Shaun Wright-Phillips but it did nothing to dampen the spirits of the TFC faithful who were still revelling from Giovinco's stunner.
The goal was the Italian's 22nd in his debut MLS season, which sees him draw level with joint-Golden boot leader Kei Kamara of Columbus Crew.
The victory, which was Greg Vanney's side's fourth in a row, sees the club move to second place in the East allowing Toronto to contest the MLS playoffs for the first time since entering the competition in 2007.
