Olympique Lyon captain Memphis Depay has defended his actions after clashing with his own fans at the end of their 2-2 draw with Champions League opponents RB Leipzig.
The result sees Lyon reach the round of 16, but the behaviour of one infuriated Depay.
The former Manchester United and PSV winger saw red when the supporter jumped the fence holding a sign that read "Marcelo, leave our club", depicting Depay's teammate as a donkey.
Depay flew into a rage and went for the fan, along with several OL teammates, before they were separated by stewards.
Later, the OL ace snapped: "Look at me! What do you see? Anger? I am furious, I am angry and I honestly do not know what to say about this.
"It is extremely difficult for a team to play, knowing that one of us has a conflict with the supporters, that he is not is supported by our fans.
“What do you expect from us as a team? That we thank the supporters who insult our families? No, but honestly, I have to be a little careful here because I am reminded of my life, my past. I don't want to be that man anymore. I have grown up and am calmer than before, but I have no words for this.
"It makes no sense that we are playing in a full stadium and cannot even celebrate victory after a match with our fans."
After reaching Champions League knockout stage, Memphis Depay saw one of the fans insulting his teammate Marcelo holding the sign with a donkey, he took it away and get into fight with fans... Give this man a bianco check and captain tape until the end of his career! #Respectpic.twitter.com/97BBP84sIz — (@crodroll) December 11, 2019
