Walters unhappy with Stoke negotiations

Jon Walters has blasted Stoke City regarding his contract talks.

Walters is currently in his final 12 months of his contract at Stoke and as a result, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding his future at the Britannia Stadium, with Norwich City said to be interested in the Irishman.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes has insisted that he would like to keep hold of Walters but the striker has now come out to refute such claims and has revealed that the offer made by the Staffordshire club is not yet worth considering.

Walters told the Stoke Sentinel: "No. There's a contract there but (not for me to consider). People behind the scenes know why and I'll leave it with my agents and lawyer. That's it. I can't really go too much into it.

"In my eyes if they valued me it would be there and it's not there so … talk's cheap when it comes to things like these and I'll leave it for the men behind the scenes to sort out.

"Of course I'd be disappointed if I had to leave. I've been here five years and we've improved every year and I can give you every stat for those years and I'm probably in the top two for everything. I understand … but I want to leave it behind the scenes. I can't go too much into it and I don't want to say anymore."

Walters scored for Stoke in their eventual Capital One Cup second round win over Luton Town on Tuesday which ended 1-1 at the end of regular time. The 31-year-old also converted from the spot as the Potters won 8-7 in the resulting shootout.
