Villarreal defender Joan Capdevila says Spanish Liga leaders Real Madrid are too far ahead for them to consider making a serious title bid.

"It would be very difficult to catch Madrid," said Capdevila. "Being nine points away from Real is perhaps too far for us.

"In any case, our first objective should always be to qualify for the Champions League."
