Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena is insisting he never insulted Real Madrid's Fede Valverde during Saturday's win.

And Baena's entourage also say claims an insult about his pregnant girlfriend during the previous Copa del Rey clash never happened.

Instead, says Sport, the problem stems from a comment during the Copa tie, which came from Vinicius Junior, when saying: "Let's see if you stop crying on social networks, you are crybabies".

Valverde and Baena barely clashed on the pitch on Saturday, but it was enough to see a scuffle that didn't go any further. Or at least that's how it was meant to be. However, Baena's entourage say the Uruguayan told him: "I'll wait for you outside."

Baena did not give more importance to the matter and the game ended with the win for Villarreal.

It was then that events escalated. Once showered, Baena went to the Bernabéu parking lot while he chatted by video call with a former teammate of his at Girona, Arnau Martínez. And it was then that the figure of Valverde appeared, who without saying a word punched him.

"And now you keep saying what you're saying around the fields," the Uruguayan shouted after the action.

The Villarreal delegate saw the situation and urged security guards to take action. They agreed and took statements from both footballers, but Baena, asked if he wanted to report the attack, chose to wait. If he did, he would do so at Villarreal.

Baena waited for Valverde's apology that never came. Nor was the conversations held by the representatives of both footballers helpful. In fact, Valverde's representative called Baena's to try to prevent him from filing a police complaint. Baena's entourage agreed if Fede released a statement denying the insults, but they stated that they could not do so without the approval of Real Madrid.

Thus, Baena, with no other option, decided to lodge his complaint.
