Villarreal defender Torres on Liverpool setback: Tell our fans this from me...

Villarreal defender Pau Torres felt individual errors cost them defeat at Liverpool.

The Reds took charge of their Champions League semifinal by taking a 2-0 first-leg lead at Anfield.

Torres said, "We have the feeling that we were punished for our only errors. In the first half we coped well, but in the second half we were a little overrun. In our planning we addressed the idea that they might go ahead but our plan was a little like in Munich – to stay comfortable, to cope. But our errors were really punished.

"We go home beaten by two goals but we stay confident. Should we score in the first ten minutes next week we are back in the tie. There's a lot of football left in this semi-final yet.

"We wanted to use direct, vertical football to relieve the pressure on us – that was our plan. But we failed to connect with our front players. We were up a very good, very strong opponent.

"Their first goal deflected off Pervis (Estupiñán) but they didn't let us settle after that so the second goal came really quickly and we hadn't got back into our rhythm.

"Tell our fans that it'll be different next week. We'll be ourselves again. We showed against Bayern that this can be a totally different story. We are still confident of winning. Villarreal still have a say in this tie."
