Villarreal defender Pau Torres admits missing the last Spain squad was a blow.

Torres was overlooked by Luis de la Fuente for his first La Roja squad selection.

He said, "You cannot control the decision of the coach. It has been a difficult moment because I had been in the Primera Division since the first year and I will fight to be in the next one.

"I neither expected it nor did I expect it, to be honest.

"I was delighted with Luis Enrique. With De la Fuente I was able to enjoy the Games and he knows me. If he has considered that I could not give him performance, I will try to give it."
